Plant Masters

June 01, 2017

On Tuesday, Julie and I had the pleasure of visiting Plant Masters in Gaithersburg, Maryland.  The owners, Carol and Leon, are absolutely wonderful and have the most beautiful flower gardens!

A little background first… Julie had heard about the American Grown flower movement and we decided that it was something we believed  in and wanted to support.  In a nutshell, it’s all about supporting locally grown flowers/growers.  You can get amazing seasonal options this way plus just about the freshest flowers possible.  Not only that, but you are supporting a local farm and owners!

We knew we wanted to be a part of this movement and contacted Plant Masters.  Carol and Leon were kind enough to let us visit their farm.  They gave us a tour and we got to work!  In order to add new flowers to Design by the Blossom, we have to first photograph them.  Then Julie spends more time than she probably wants to tell me editing the image.  That way you’re able to design with solely the flower, and nothing else from the picture.  Believe it or not, we just use our iPhones to take the pictures.  We tried with my fancy dancy camera (that even I don’t know how to use, except for the “auto” setting), but it was just easier to work with the latest and greatest that apple has put out!  Lucky for us, we came to Plant Masters on a cutting day, so their fridge was FULL of freshly cut, beautiful flowers! A few images we did take from blooms not yet cut, like the red hot poker plant.  By the time we were finished, we had over 60 new images to add to our flower inventory!

It was our first visit to a flower farm, and we were so happy to see first hand how they operate. They really run a great business and if you are in the Bethesda/DC area, definitely check them out! We will absolutely be visiting them again!  Give them a like on facebook!

Succulent Heaven!
