Design by the Blossom’s visit to Pennock

Our first wholesaler visit to Pennock Floral!

As you may or may not know, Julie and I have been working hard to update our flower inventory in Bloom (our subscription based design area).  Earlier this spring, we visited Plant Masters. A local (to us!) grower of specialty cut flowers and herbs. We had such a great time and were able to take some great pictures (read about our visit here), that we wanted to keep going!

So earlier this week, we were lucky enough to take a ride out to Baltimore and visit Pennock Floral, a local wholesaler.  I’ve never been to a wholesaler before so I had no idea what to expect… Luckily Julie did because if she didn’t tell me to bring a sweatshirt we would have been in serious trouble.  It was 95 and humid, so a sweatshirt was the last thing on my mind!

We were greeted by such a friendly staff and couldn’t have found a nicer group of people to be around while we photographed.  We donned our sweatshirts and headed into the super large walk in refrigerators. (Next time neither of us will be wearing flip flops!)

Taking pictures of flowers that are already packaged in plastic presented a whole new round of problems for us, but we were able to work it out and get some great shots.  Julie had made some simple paper cutouts that we were able to put around an individual flower to help us get the shots that we needed.  Needless to say, they were a lifesaver.  Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to get nearly as many images.

We had to take a warm up session about halfway through, as it was getting hard to hold the flowers and use the camera (I didn’t think I’d ever be happy to walk into that hot and humid weather, but it felt good that day!) and then we were able to stay pretty comfortable in their room with tropical flowers.

Once we finished in the cold rooms, we got an unexpected treat and were able to photograph some different container options that they had available. When they’re finished being edited, they will make some great additions to our new ceremony structures.
